Should Self Protection Be Enforced Or Strongly Recommended?

There are many laws that affect what you can and cannot do. Some of these laws were put in place for good reason, one great example is the law against murdering another human being, that is a fantastic law! However there are other laws that might be better of as recommendations that do not come with any sort of penalty.
If I decide to go for a drive and not wear my seatbelt or if I want to ride a motorcycle without a helmet, the only person I am endangering is myself, so why then should I be issued with a fine if I get caught? It should be up to the individual if they want to risk their life. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think anyone should be driving without a seatbelt, but that should be your choice to make, not the governments.
The only role the government should play is to educate the public and especially children about the negatives as well as the positives of these things. And when I say educate I mean educate, I am sick of seeing propaganda spread by the government that misinforms people and leads them to think things are worse than they really are.
Another example I have already covered is illegal drug use, but what about euthanasia? If someone wants to end their life, isn’t it their right as a human being to do so? The only people that will get hurt out of this is the family and friends, but if they truly loved that person then they would not be so selfish to deny them their last wish. The only reasonable law that should be in place regarding euthanasia is a possible “cooling off” period and perhaps a required counseling appointment just to make sure that is what they really want. Again, I am not encouraging euthanasia, it is tragic to see someone who has decided that they no longer want to live, but it is not my place or yours to tell them that they cannot choose to end their life.
As usual it all boils down to having true personal freedom.
