Choose Your Battles Wisely

Once again, the fires of the “culture war” between religious watchdogs and “Hollywood” (aka “movies”) are being fanned simply for the sake of getting pissed off. As Playfuls.com reports, The Catholic League has requested an investigation into whether or not the independent film “Houndog,” which recently premiered at the Sundance film festival, has broken any child pornography laws.
“Houndog” includes a scene in which 12-year-old actress Dakota Fanning is raped, along with “other scenes in which the character appears naked or wearing only ‘underpants.’”

Ok, fine. The thought of seeing a 12-year-old girl get raped should turn the stomachs of everyone. (If it doesn’t, you probably should be in jail.) But anyone who knows anything about filmmaking understands that THIS DIDN’T ACTUALLY FUCKING HAPPEN! It’s a movie. Maybe it’s not a movie you want to watch, but this rape of a 12-year-old is completely fabricated. (A claim the Catholic Church wishes were true about their numerous “unfortuante incidents.”)

Maybe the Catholic League should choose to fight a battle that won’t just make the whole institution look like a bunch of douche bags. As for the film, remember, it’s just art. And if it turns you on while you’re watching it, please turn yourself in now.
