About
skep·a·the·tar·i·an [skep-ey-thee-tair-ee-uh n]
-noun
One who advocates maximizing individual rights and minimizing the role of the state while not believing in unsupported claims like the existence of a god or the supernatural.
Skepathetarian is a news and current events site dedicated to giving you the latest news relating to religion, politics and whackjobs with a heavy bias toward the skeptic/atheist/libertarian point of view. We will try to be fair and objective, but wont hold back on saying what we think, just like a true Skepathetarian!
The idea was formed because of the fact that skepticism, atheism and libertarianism all seem to be about the same thing; logic, common sense and morality.
There is no god, and no one else has the right to restrict what you do!
Now although the Skepathetarian point of view makes more sense than any other, I expect to rub a few people up the wrong way. If you have a difference of opinion I would love to talk with you about it, but please try to be logical and objective.
I encourage you to subscribe to the RSS feed or check back occasionally and I encourage you to let me know your point of view on each article via the comment system.
About The Monkey
A lot of the time, I write articles and fight for controversial things. Many people assume that I have personal bias in many of these areas, so I would just like to clear up a few things:
I strongly support the legalization of all drugs, however the only drug I have taken is Marijuana on one occasion and I did not like it one bit.
I support the legalization of prostitution, but I have never used their services and do not intend on doing so.
I want FULL equality for all people, including all races, genders and sexualities. I am also a heterosexual white male.
I believe in freedom of religion but also freedom from religion. I would love nothing more than for religion to disappear, but I do not believe in using force to achieve this. People need to come to the conclusion that religion is unnecessary and dangerous on their own terms.
There are many other areas where I have nothing to gain from supporting the various causes, so please don’t think I’m always in it for myself. In fact I usually feel bad fighting for something that affects me because I worry that I am not seeing the full picture.
I would also like to state that I am generally skeptical about the accuracy of the news that I base many of my articles on and I don’t always assume that all of the details are 100% true and correct. However when I write the articles on this site, I treat the news report as fact for the purpose of the article and write my opinions based on if it were true. I’m certainly not saying that I think all news reports are untrue or claim false truths, but I am aware that journalists and writers almost always have some sort of bias whether they realize it or not and may choose to emphasize facts that get their point across, while downplaying other important facts.
I also certainly recognize the fact that I am very bias towards certain sides and I will not try to hide or deny that.
I love who I am and I am very optimistic about everything. I believe that we are EXTREMELY lucky to be alive considering everything that had to happen in the past for us to be here and I just don’t see the point in being miserable. Having said that, I live a very fortunate life and have never had any serious medical, emotional or financial problems. The only person I have ever known that has died was my cousin when I was too young to remember and apart from that my only experience with death is pets. My parents divorced when I was about 10 years old and the scars from that have all disappeared. I always seem to fall on my feet and things usually go my way without much effort. I love to help people in need and it always deeply troubles me when people are suffering, in fact I loose sleep over it. I am very passionate about what I believe in which I why this site was created.
My heroes include Penn Jillette, Richard Dawkins and Dr Norman Borlaug.
