Like To Blaspheme? Go Directly To Jail!

Here’s an interesting case of state enforced religion, taken directly from the Massachusetts government website.

Section 36. Whoever wilfully blasphemes the holy name of God by denying, cursing or contumeliously reproaching God, his creation, government or final judging of the world, or by cursing or contumeliously reproaching Jesus Christ or the Holy Ghost, or by cursing or contumeliously reproaching or exposing to contempt and ridicule, the holy word of God contained in the holy scriptures shall be punished by imprisonment in jail for not more than one year or by a fine of not more than three hundred dollars, and may also be bound to good behavior.

I don’t think there is much that I can say about this aside from the obvious fact this draconian law is completely ridiculous! Thankfully I haven’t heard any cases of this actually being enforced, so I think it’s time for this law to be removed from the books. I love Penn Jillette’s idea about having a 12 month expiry on all laws so that only the important laws would continually be renewed while the useless ones would be forgotten.

Why?

According to this report by PrisonPlanet.com, President Bush lied to the American People during Tuesday night’s State of the Union speach, stating that “We stopped an al Qaeda plot to fly a hijacked airplane into the tallest building on the West Coast,” a claim already proven false by pretty much everybody. The “Fox Nothing Channel”

Finally, someone (Keith Olberman) has the gumption to call FOX out for what it really is: Illegitimate propaganda. Not that that is going to do anything, since Fox will fire right back with the same discrediting doublespeak they’re famous (and popular) for, but at least he’s said what we’ve all been thinking, you know, on TV.

UPDATE: The Crooks and Liars video link is now down. Learn more about this here.

The Negative Effects Of Banning Public Smoking Starting To Show

Baning something almost always ends up causing more harm than the good that was intended. This was true for alcohol prohibition and is true for drug prohibition. It now seems like it may be true for public smoking bans. Read more

Why Is Marijuana Illegal?

pot-leaf-big.jpgThere are quite a few reasons why Marijuana is illegal and they’re all good reasons right? For example, did you know that Marijuana causes jazz musicians to create satanic music? I’m not a fan of jazz, but I didn’t know it was satanic!

Other reasons include black people taking the drug and then looking white people in the eye. It was also causing white girls to desire black men which is wrong for so many reasons that I can’t seem to think of a single one?

Check out this article for more information about why Marijuana was made illegal, it might surprise you to find out that there is no good reason behind it, only racism and greed.

Should Self Protection Be Enforced Or Strongly Recommended?

SeatbeltThere are many laws that affect what you can and cannot do. Some of these laws were put in place for good reason, one great example is the law against murdering another human being, that is a fantastic law! However there are other laws that might be better of as recommendations that do not come with any sort of penalty. Read more

Let the Market Decide Where You Can Smoke, Not the Government

Many countries are passing more and more laws prohibiting smoking in various areas. They are disallowing business owners to make their own decisions on how their business is run. I propose letting the marketing decide where people can and cannot smoke, and leave the government out of it. Read more

Why Illegal Drugs Should Be Legalized, Perhaps Not What You Think

Marijuana PropagandaIt never ceases to amaze me that some people out there think that they have the right to tell other people what they can and cannot do with their own bodies.

In this case I am talking about illegal drugs.

I am not saying drugs are perfect, nor am I saying that they do not have a negative side, but I think that the current prohibition on drugs is a failing initiative forced upon us by the religious groups that influence the government. Read more

Welcome to Skepathetarian.

I would like to start things by explaining the meaning of “skepathetarian” and then explain why Skepathetarian the site was formed.

skep·a·the·tar·i·an [skep-ey-thee-tair-ee-uh n]
-noun
One who advocates maximizing individual rights and minimizing the role of the state while not believing in unsupported claims like the existence of a god or the supernatural.

In case you haven’t noticed, skepathetarian is a combination of the following three words:

The word was created because many people believe strongly in all three of these principles and no single word was suitable. (and every other domain name was taken). The word is not intended to be taken seriously and is more of a joke than anything else, however the ideas and principals behind it are genuine. Please don’t go out and kill in the name of skepathetarianism!

The website was created as an outlet to express the ideas and thoughts of a typical skepathetarian on different subjects and current events while trying to be fair, factual and objective.

Feel free to call yourself and others a skepathetarian, and subscribe to the RSS feed or check back regularly for good quality skepathetarian fun!

Peace.
